Knock Your Socks Off

EXPLAIN what it means to knock your socks off. That is means that you did so well that the person's socks fly right off! Of course, that wouldn't really happen, but you did sang so good that they also feel really good inside to, from head to toe!

Have song names inside the socks. Invite a child to pick a sock.

Ways to do this:
1.  Invite teachers up and set the socks on top of their shoes. When the kids sing well the Teacher kicks the socks and send them flying.

2.  Line up socks (made out of felt or paper to make them stiff) along the chalkboard ledge. Knock them off the ledge with the children sing well.

Magic Color Cups

I found the idea here, on Primary Singing Ideas.

    ----- ----- ----- ----- -----

    HOW TO DO IT:

    1) Fill clear containers (ie: plastic drinking cups) with 3/4 cup water and 1/3 cup vinegar. (the ratio can be varied, but more vinegar= more fizz). PLACE CONTAINERS on a BAKING SHEET. This WILL MAKE A MESS!!!!

    2) Place one small drop of food coloring on a metal spoon (don't use clear spoons, since you can see the color on the other side), then place a heaping teaspoon of baking soda on top, or enough to make sure the food coloring is covered.

    3) Have a child come up and pick a spoon to stir in a cup of "water".
It will fizz like crazy and remain clear while fizzing, so make sure they keep stirring.
Once the fizz has settled down, the color will show up.

I will be using 6 different colors. red, green, yellow, blue, orange (one drop yellow and one drop red), and purple (one drop red and one drop blue)

(Notice the water on the bottom of the baking sheet? It WILL bubble over and make a mess. Paper towels would be a good idea to bring...)

    ----- ----- ----- ----- -----

    WAYS TO USE THIS IDEA:

---AS A REVIEW: Color of the water = a color on the board that represents the song we are to sing.
---LEARNING LYRICS: Color of the water is the color of words written on a white board or chalk board. Erase the words written in that color.
---Would be fun with the song When I Am Baptized (...I like to look for rainbows...)

Teacher/Leader Silly Dress Up Review

Explain the rules. "We're going to play a guessing game in Primary today! Sister President has no idea what songs we're going to sing today. I have a bag of silly clothes! If Sister President guesses the song we're singing right your Teachers have to wear the silly clothes! But if Sister President guesses wrong, she has to wear the silly clothes! Hopefully she doesn't get TOO many wrong or she'll look very, very silly!"
1) Choose a “Guesser”;
-(Primary Presidency Member or Bishopric or Self)
-blindfold them between songs [*optional]

2) Choose a Teacher to pick a child from their class.
- Child picks an object from the bag
- Show all, place on table

3) SING:
- Pianist has song posters and chooses a song.
- She holds up poster so we all know (everyone but the Guesser) what song we’re singing.

4) If Guesser gets the song:
-WRONG: Guesser wears item
-RIGHT: The child who picked the item’s Teacher wears it

5) REPEAT

PREP:
-bag of silly items -song posters
-blindfold

Or;
Bubblegum Betty
Bubblegum Barney
Bubba Bubblegum

I've seen this idea in Primary before and thought it was so cute! The kids loved it! Invite teachers to blow balloons - the better they sing, the bigger the bubble gets!  *Bring a bag of bubbles - noone wants to share balloons!

Picture credit: I saw this post on live.craft.eat which reminded me to write about this fun visual aide.  I'll post my own photo when I get my Bubble Boy (or girl...) made. :)

Singing Pox

Get small dot stickers. Put them on the kids who are trying to sing their best. This will encourage others to sing, too.

...I like the idea, but then I start thinking about the book You Are Special by Max Lucado...

Build a Snowman

I saw this idea from Sophia's Primary Ideas. Here's my version:

A child comes up and rolls a die. On roll turn #1 they roll a body. Turn #2, a face. #3 buttons. #4 accessories. Draw on the chalkboard or a posterboard or butcher paper or whatever you have available. I used the picking sticks to choose who would come up and I had the kids answer a question in order to get to roll the die.

Wiggle Worms

It's a cute idea to have all of your wiggle songs in a jar and to have kids pick them out.

Our pianist plays "wiggly" music* while the kids wiggle, shake and jump around. I then pick who's the wiggliest, and that child comes up and picks from the wiggle jar. I may need to start using the picking sticks, though, so as not to keep picking the same children over and over.

We have pom-poms, with the song attached on a long colorful neon rectangle piece of paper bent back and forth to look 'wiggly' (do you get the idea? I need to take a picture). These wiggle worms from Choristor's Corner are adorable, too.

*wiggly music.... like, a triplet of high notes over and over.  Get it? Sort of?

Mistletoe!

I have a mistletoe headband, so I HAD to find a reason to use it! This is what I did:

Bring mistletoe headband. Ask if they know what mistletoe is. Explain that when someone is under the mistletoe they get a kiss! (Really play this up, it's funny to get a reaction - from kids and teachers alike!) Explain that a teacher is going to wear the mistletoe and if we think that class sang really good that whole class gets a kiss!  (a chocolate kiss, haha! - pull out the jar of kisses now and laugh away! bwah haha!). Make them work for it and really sing for you, then invite them up to get their CHOCOLATE kiss. :)

*Not all Presidencies may go for this. - you be the judge.
