Handdrawn Pictures for The Family Is of God

I hurriedly drew these a few minutes right before church. They're blurry and not downloadable, but maybe they offer ideas for your own pictures/flipcharts:

1st verse,
1) Our Father has a family, it's me, it's you all others too....
2) He sent each one of us to Earth, through birth...

2nd verse, "Father"
3rd verse, "Mother"
4th verse, "I'll..."
CHORUS:
God gave up families
To help us become what he wants us to be
This is how he shares His love,
For the family is of God

Family Find

For THE FAMILY IS OF GOD,

  1. Have 4 large blank cut out figures displayed at the front of the room.
  2. Place family role wordstrips (from the song) around the room.
  3. Pick a child to find a word strip.
  4. Primary helps child decide which verse it goes in and tape it on that figure (perhaps in the order they are in the song)
  5. Sing that verse
  6. Repeat

Stick Figure Family Guess

To repeat-sing a song, such as the chorus of The Family is of God;
  1. Draw one of their families in stick figures as they sing.
  2. At the end of the song they guess who's family it is.
  3. Repeat.

Family Roles Name Poems

source

I want to use this idea to review/cement the song The Family is of God.

THE GENERAL IDEA:
Pick a keyword from the song for each verse. Have the kids help you build the root keywords in an acrostic poem (also called a name poem). This activity helps the kids think about the specific attributes of family roles.

IN PRACTICE:
Write down each root keyword. Cut up the letters. Keep all the pieces organized how you will use them! In little baggies or something. It'll make it easier, I promise.
  1. Start with the Verse 1 root keyword.
  2. Write the keyword vertically on the board (with space on the right side to fill in the answers they'll be giving you).
  3. Hand out a letter to each class.
  4. Tell them they have to think of something that starts with the letter they got that describes the root keyword. Tell them only one word per class, and it has to be a nice word. Tell them a representative will give the word they all decide on in just a minute.
  5. Go through each class one at a time and get their describing word from them. Write it on the board.
  6. When the keyword on the board is all filled out, sing that verse.
  7. Then repeat for the other 3 verses.

Keywords for the song The Family is of God:
V1:  CHILDREN
V2:  FATHER
V3:  MOTHER
V4:  FAMILY

The Family is of God: Family Roles

Use the children themselves to learn or review The Family is of God.

I've typed up what I'm going to do below. Edit it to your own preference. Below just gives an idea of how it goes.

---------------------

PREPARE:

  • Props for the kids to wear that represent each verse.
  • Word strips of key words in each verse. (I'll draw a picture with the word for JR's sake.)

Suggested Props to Wear:
Verse 1: Ribbon that says "me" on it
Verse 2: Tie
Verse 3: Apron
Verse 4: Ribbon that says "I" on it

*Wordstrips are suggested below.

---------------------

IN ACTION:

Work on one verse at a time.

1.
Call up a child. Put the "me" ribbon on child.
Say, "our Father has a family, its me! It's you! All others too, we are his children.
*Tape wordstrips on the child's clothes as you go along talking out the verse: EARTH, BIRTH, LIVE, LEARN
(Hint: position wordstrips so the are in order somehow. Like, starting from the shoulder down the arm and then down the leg.)

Sing that verse a few times.

2.
Call up a male child. Put a tie on him.
*Tape wordstrips on the child's clothes as you go along talking out the verse: PRESIDE, PROVIDE, LOVE, TEACH, LEADS, PRAYER, SHARE

Sing that verse a few times.

3.
Call up a female child. Put an apron on her.
*Tape wordstrips on the child's clothes as you go along with the verse: CARE, PREPARE, NURTURE, STRENGTHEN, OBEY, PRAY, LOVE, SERVE

Sing that verse a few times.

4.
Call up a child. Put the "I" ribbon on child.
*Tape wordstrips on the child's clothes as you go along with the verse: LOVE, SERVE, EXAMPLE, GLAD, HELP

Sing that verse a few times.

---------------------

******If you are not comfortable taping the words on the children call up additional children and have them hold signs with the words, standing in order next to the child wearing the prop.

Pergler's Family is of God Lesson Plan

I found THIS AMAZING LESSON on Pergler's Primary Place for song The Family is of God. I love that it walks through the Proclamation. It could be adapted for Singing Time.

The Family is of God - J. Ashley Hall Arrangement

HERE is the The Family is of God - J. Ashley Hall Arrangement. It doesn't say it's for voices... but could you add a children's choir with it?
