Broken Hearts for I Will Follow God's Plan

Concerning prep work, there are 2 versions below. Easy and hard. (Hard isn't really that hard, it's just more effort...)

source
EASY:
  1. Glue/print song phrases on hearts. Cut them apart.
  2. Post them randomly on the board.
  3. Invite children to match them up.
  4. When a match is made, sing it.
  5. When all matches are made sing the whole song.
*I thought I thought of this idea!, but then I found it on Toddler Land (pictured above).  She's already made a printable for it, so go there and grab it!

----------------------------------

HARD(er):

So, here (pic below) is my own version of how I will use the broken hearts idea for IWFGP. Of course, printing the document from Toddler Land (link above) would be the easiest thing to do. Instead, I made my broken hearts to be reusable. I laminated them and taped the lyrics to the front. More work? Yes. Reusable for the future? Yes. (see my hearts blank, here)

How I'll use these hearts for reviewing and cementing I Will Follow God's Plan:
  1. I will draw numbers on the board, holding the place for the assembled hearts. (Hearts have coordinating numbers on the back).
  2. Heart pieces will be taped to the piano.
  3. I'll call a child up to make a match, then we'll tape the heart on it's numbered spot on the board.
  4. We'll sing the song. Humming if there are no words taped up yet, and singing the lyrics to the phrases that have been matched and posted on the board.
Broken hearts: Assembled!
With I Will Follow God's Plan lyrics on them.
The white parts will be removed and I can make more if I decide to use these laminated hearts again.

Mend the Broken Hearts

  1. Cut out hearts.
  2. Cut them in half.
  3. Put lyric phrases on the hearts (half and half).
  4. Display them taped up randomly.
  5. Call up a child to make a match.
  6. When a match is made, tape the match on the board and,
  7. Sing the song. Hum the song and only sing the words for the hearts that are matched.
  8. Repeat.

HERE is this idea in use for I Will Follow God's Plan

My "HOW TO SING" Hearts / Heart Darts Game

These are 8x10. That size works well if you want to print them as photos (for durability). Or, use a home printer. Whatever works for you!  Two pages below:

*PS - I used them with the Prayer Is a Conversation With Heavenly Father: Valentine's Version Lesson for learning the song I Pray In Faith.

Name That Primary Song About LOVE / Make a Card For the Bishop

SONGS (links go to my flip charts):
*THIS LINK is all the lyrics to the songs w/flip charts in one document. I'm going to hand it out to my Teachers. It looks like this:
Teacher's Copy, page 1 of 3

THE PLAN:

Tape up a sign that says “Name That Primary Song About LOVE!”

JR:
Pass a heart around - when the piano stops, that child gets to come up and pick a piece of a heart puzzle with a song # on the back. Pianist plays a few notes of the song. Child tries to guess what song it is. Sing that song. Tape the piece on the posterboard.

SR:
Pass around 2 hearts. Two kids come up. I pick a heart puzzle piece. Pianist plays a few notes. Whoever knows the song first, rings the bell. Winner gets to tape up the piece on the heart. Sing that song.

*Every time “love” is said, either sit or stand

----- ----- ----- ----- ---- -----

EXTRA TIME:
After the heart puzzle is all put together;
JR: pass out printed papers for the kids to color and write notes on to the Bishopric
SR: pass out blank papers  for the kids to draw and write notes on to the Bishopric

----- ----- ----- ----- ---- -----

ADD’L INFO:
The heart puzzle is a poster board on which a big outline of a heart is drawn on it (the pieces of the heart have the songs on them) - at the end of Primary write “WE Love Our Bishop!” on the heart. Give it to him after church for him to hang in his office.
*Make 2 - one for JR and one for SR.

----- ----- ----- ----- ---- ----

PREPARE:

  • 2 posterboard heart-outline cards
  • 2 sets of heart puzzle pieces
  • write songs #s on the back of the puzzle pieces
  • list of songs to song
  • bell
  • flip charts for the songs on the list
  • printed color sheets
  • blank paper
  • crayons

Hot Cold Broken Hearts

Tape halves of hearts on the board (have the other halves in a basket or bag or something for the kids to pick from).

*Optional - explain how Jesus is our Savior and mends broken hearts*

One child goes out into the hall.

Another child chooses from the colored hearts. (Be sure to read the heart before the child hides it so you know what song you're singing!) Then the child hides the heart.

Sing the song listed on the heart while the child who was out in the hallway looks for the hidden half. Play “hot/cold” to help the child find the heart (you know, get louder when they’re close, quieter when they go the wrong way...)

Repeat

----- ----- ------ ----- ------ ----- -----

PREPARE:

  • Cut out hearts
  • Cut hearts in half
  • Choose the songs you want to review with this game...
  • Write songs and #s on heart halves
  • Separate the blank halves (they go up on the board) from the halves with the songs written on them (these are the ones the kids will choose from).

Conversation Hearts!

I found this list on SugarDoodle. I wanted a place to store it for future reference, so here it is. Credit given to Luana Willis.
