Jelly Bean Poem

GREEN is for the grassy blade,
YELLOW is for the sun God made.
ORANGE is for a flame so bright.
BLACK is for our sins not right.
RED is for the blood He gave.
WHITE is for Jesus grace. He saved.
PURPLE is for the hours of sorrow
PINK is for a new tomorrow.
A bag of jelly beans, so colorful and sweet,
is a promise, a prayer, and a loved one's treat.

HAPPY EASTER !

*I'm pretty sure I found this on Sugardoodle.

Scrambled Eggs 2.0

Preface: I have THIS Symbols of Easter Scrambled Eggs Lesson plan.  It is cute and it went very well. I was going to use it again this year...  BUT THEN, I realized I had different needs this year. With Stake Conference, General Conference and Easter all happening at the same time I needed BOTH an Easter activity and a review activity. So I modified my own idea, and here is Scrambled Eggs version 2.0.

---------------------------------

PREP (make a set for JR and one for SR):
  1. Print off Song Titles
  2. Cut Song Titles and put in Plastic Eggs (*Cut apart each word for SR, and just one cut in the title for JR.)

IN ACTION:

PARAPHRASE: Tell the kids that your Easter eggs got all scrambled up and you're going to need their help to unscramble them!
  1. Choose a Class to come up to the table
  2. Have them pick and Egg and unscramble the Song Title
  3. Sing that Song
  4. Repeat

---------------------------------

(Here's my Easter song list for this year):
  • Did Jesus Really Live Again? 64
  • He Died That We Might Live Again 65
  • Easter Hosanna 68
  • Jesus Has Risen 70
  • To Think About Jesus 71

I'm Thinking About....

*This activity works well for the song To Think About Jesus.
  1. A Child Holds a Thought Bubble with picture in it. Don't let them see it!
  2. The Primary gives clues about what's in the bubble.
  3. Child guesses what they are "thinking" about.
  4. Ask, "is this something we should think about during the Sacrament?"
  5. Get Answers
  6. Sing
  7. Repeat
PREP:
  • Laminated thought bubble (maybe on a stick so they can hold it above their head)
  • Pictures to stick on thought bubble

------------------------
UPDATE:
This one went well in JR and in SR.
In JR I only had good "thoughts", I decided last minute to pull out the "bad" ones.

Egg Carton Coin

Have an empty egg carton with numbers written in each egg hole. Each number represents either; 1) a way to sing, OR 2) a song to sing. Put a small bead or coin in the carton. Ask a child to shake the egg carton. Open it. Whatever number the coin landed on is what you do.

Easter Symbols Scrambled Eggs Lesson Plan

I drew my pictures to save on ink. (I don't draw Jesus, I'll use a picture from the Library.)
Scrambled Egg for Senior Primary (they'll glue the letters to a card then post the card under the coordinating picture on the board).

JR:
  1. Pictures taped up on board, facing out
  2. Child chooses an egg out of the basket of “scrambled eggs” (word strip inside)
  3. Match word strip to picture on the board
  4. Explain symbol
  5. Sing song
  6. Repeat
SR - [EASTER SYMBOLS WORD SCRAMBLE]:
  1. Pictures taped up on board, facing out
  2. A class’ Teacher picks an Egg
  3. The class unscrambles letters in Eggs
  4. Class glues letters in order on a card
  5. Tape card under correct picture
  6. Read scripture
  7. Sing Song
  8. Repeat
*This activity turned out okay, but if I do it again I will hand out eggs to each class at the beginning and give them a few minutes to unscramble their word. Then go class by class - they tell me their unscrambled word and then read the scripture and then read the song. (Rather than calling up one class at a time - it ate up too much time that way = not enough singing going on).

PREPARE:
  • A picture for each Easter symbol
  • JR: print symbol word strips, put in eggs, put in a basket
  • SR: print symbol word strips, cut up each word, put in eggs, put in basket
  • SR: print scriptures
  • SR: glue sticks
  • tape
  • basket

Here is everything up on the board.

Egg Shakers

Easy to make. I already had everything I needed lying around the house. Plastic eggs, rice, packing tape (best way to keep them closed... glue didn't work out so well) and an empty egg container.

Pass from class to class. Use them to shake the beat or the rhythm while you sing.

Jesus Has Risen Handbell Chart

preview of my handbell chart for Jesus Is Risen
8x10 pages

The following link is: my handbell chart for Jesus Has Risen (in Google Docs)

I have the basic Key of C one octave no-brand-name handbells. This chart is made it for Jesus Has Risen: [*Key of C Major, ¾ time sig.]. *To change the key of the piano sheet music go to song on the the music player on LDS.org. *There is a copy of the sheet music in the Key of C in my Google Doc.

It will be tricky to get the kids and the piano to start at the same time. I have taught the kids that I will do 2 silent leads of the 3-beat pattern. I raise my left on the second "3" beat to let them know we're there! - both hands up and.. GO! (Tip: Give the first note to the kid who watches you the best).

I put handbells on the sheet music (Key of C)
as a handout/homework for the kids who will be performing for Easter.

Egg Basket Toss

Pass a plastic egg while singing. Sing until pianist stops. Child holding egg gets the chance to finish the lyric. If they do it they get to try to toss a few jellybean eggs into a baskets for points.  Have multiple baskets labebeled with different point values. Or, each jellybean = 1 point.

Pin the Egg in the Easter Basket

  1. Child picks an egg - on the back is the song to sing
  2. Put a blindfold on a child
  3. Primary sings loud or soft depending on how close the child is to pinning the egg in the basket

"Eggcellent" Singers

Have the lyrics on a poster board. Cut out a big egg and some small eggs. After each time we sing, invite a child to move the eggs to new spots on the board over some off the lyrics.

TELL THE KIDS THAT THEY HAVE TO BE SUPER DUPER “EGGSELLENT SINGERS” TO BE ABLE TO SING WITH WORDS BLOCKED. Can they do it and show me how “eggcellent” they are?!?!?!!!!       ;)
