I'm very glad that he's my dad, POINT TO YOUR BIG SMILE
And I know he loves me too. HUG SELF
*This is a way to repeat-sing a song you're learning and also get in a nod to Father's Day.
Before Father's Day take pictures of different Dad's hands (just one hand will do). Ask each Dad 5 things about themselves (to help the kids guess who they are).
Have the "Handy Ways to Sing" posted on the board.
Display hand pictures.
Choose a child to give a HIGH FIVE to a hand.
The hand has 5 CLUES to guess who's Dad's hand it is.
Figure out who's hand it is using the clues, then...
...the # of guesses it took them to figure out who's Dad's hand was is the # on the chart indicating the "handy" way to sing. (does that make sense?).

IDEA #2 - HAND MATCH
*This is a way to sing lots of different songs!
Before Father's Day take pictures of PAIRS of hands. Ask the Dads what their favorite Primary song is.
Put pictures on the board.
Choose a child to make a match.
Identify the Dad, then sing that dad's favorite Primary Song.
A Father's day twist on pin the tail on the donkey. After signing through the song you're working on, pick a child to pin (tape) the tie on the guy. My Primary had a blast with this one and sang really well for a chance to pin the tie on the guy.
I saw the cutest idea on Facebook! I don't know if I can tell it well enough here but I want to try to remember it! It was a sheet with Dad's clothes pinned on it to look like a 'flat Dad'. There were holes cut in places for two arms/hands to come through and for a tie to come through. A Dad stood behind the sheet (hung in the Primary doorway). He put his arms and tie through and "led" a song (just waving his arms around). At the end the kids guess who it is. Then the sheet is lowered and the Dad is revealed. It looked like fun!
A classic Father's Day activity is Cut The Tie. I've seen it done many time in various Primaries.
Invite the Bishop or the Bishopric Member over Primary to come in. Pre-plan that he will be wearing an old tie that he doesn't care about, or one from the thrift shop.
Sing
Cut off a piece of the tie (from the bottom up) - the size you cut is determined by how well they sang
We have a Daddy who plays the piano in our Ward. I was thinking of asking him to come in and play that week. I'd cut the Bishopric's tie for the first 10 minutes, then for the rest of the time I'd cut a really LONG tie that I'd unroll from the Pianist up and over the piano. I think the kids would get a kick out of it. :)
*Note: Every time I've seen Cut The Tie done the kids love it. Except once. When my daughter was a Sunbeam the Primary Presidency and Bishopric really played up how much the tie was his faaaaavorite ever, ever, ever tie. As soon as they got out the scissors to cut his tie she started screaming and bawling her little Sunbeam eyes out. Her first experience with this activity was a disaster. Every time they got the scissors out she had a squealing sobbing episode, "...NO! Not his favorite tiiiiiiie!".
I woke up this morning and what did I see?
The sun was shining on the apricot tree.
Spring flowers blossomed right before my eyes,
Just what I needed for a big surprise.
I gathered an armful, a bouquet sweet.
Enough to make my mother such a lovely treat.
I wrapped a ribbon 'round, I went inside to say,
'I love you Mommy, happy Mother's Day!'
FATHERS VERSE *by Janelle Morris:
I woke up this morning and what did I see?
My Dad was working on the apricot tree.
Spring had brought us such a nice surprise,
Popcorn popping right before our eyes.
I went outside to help him a little while,
Being with my dad always makes me smile.
Dad you are the best, So I want to say,
I love you daddy, happy father’s day!
